My name is Miguel and I am a documentary filmmaker, photographer, writer, and climber born in Manila, now based in Amsterdam. These days, most people might know me for my YouTube channel, ‘Truth & Friction’ where I publish short documentaries about climbing through an anthropological lens. I had known from the start that I would never become a world-class athlete who posts the most spectacular feats in the most stunning settings.
What I can do, however, is look at the culture and psychology of climbing. What makes this community so different? What are themes that the average climber might resonate with? I enjoy looking at the moments in between and wondering about the weirdness of this sport we all love so much. As much as I enjoy hucking myself up a wall, I more often find myself diving myself into rabbit holes, and with my camera, I get to bring people along for the ride.
